Note. — Every American collector should have a specimen
of these interesting coins in his collection. There is one in
silver and - some three or four in brass known of the last de-
scribed and one in silver with E. G. fecit, but all the others are
in pewter. The same device was employed on the paper
money issued by Congress Feby. 17, 1776, but the denomina-
tions of this issue with this device being confined to 3, f,
of a dollar, it seems to confirm the supposition that these coins

DOLLARS.

1794 An excellent specimen, the date, head and liberty
bold, the stars stronger before than behind head. R.
The eagle and wreath fine ; united states somewhat
weak  and  here  shows  the  file  marks  in  the  planchet ;
of America, well struck. Very good and worthy of a
place in any collection. Excessively rare, and we
might here state that since we have been in the busi-
ness (1875) we have never known of a 1794 dollar
being found or picked up, with a single exception, the
two said to have been in the hoard of some 10,000 old
dollars and half dollars at Beaver Falls in 1878. We
have examined in that time probably a thousand lots,
hoards and miscellaneous gatherings, old family heir-
looms, etc., and never once did they contain a 1794

Note. — We have never seen any notes like this set of three
pieces just described. Were it not for the absence of the gold

the regular notes, but different paper, and colors on backs.
They are no doubt very rare indeed,
